A parliamentary roundtable titled ‘England’s Front Door to the World’ will take place in Westminster on Thursday 19 March at 10:30am as part of English Tourism Week.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the South East and Gatwick Diamond Growth Gateway are hosting the event, which will bring together parliamentarians, tourism organisations and business representatives. The session will examine the role of the South East in welcoming international visitors to England.
The roundtable will consider how the region’s transport links, visitor attractions and accommodation sector contribute to the UK tourism economy. Organisers stated that the event will aim to position the South East as a visitor destination and outline the tourism offer available across the region to domestic and international audiences.
Chair of the event, Natasha Irons MP, Member of Parliament and member of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) select committee, said: “The South East has so much for visitors to see and experience, from vineyards and countryside to coastal towns and historic places. Events like this help bring people together to talk about how we can open the door wider and invite more visitors to discover the region.”
Other speakers include Mardi Roberts from Ridgeview Wine Estate, and Rachael Farrington from Visit Britain.
Mardi Roberts, Marketing Director of Ridgeview Wine Estate, said: “When people think of visiting England they often picture London first, but there is a huge amount to experience just beyond the capital. From our vineyards in Sussex to the wider countryside and coastline, the South East has plenty to offer visitors who want to explore further.”
Organised by Silverstone Communications and Gatwick Diamond Business (gdb), the event will provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss how tourism promotion, transport connectivity and regional partnerships can support visitor growth across the South East.
All attendees will need to register ahead of the event.
